Fleetwood from Knott End

Fleetwood was once one of the largest fishing town of the UK. This position has sadly declined over the years. The fishing heritage however still remains in the hearts of many families still living within the area.

The wind here blows in directly off the Irish Sea. On days like these few people would consider travelling the ten miles up the coast and spending an afternoon in Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The beaches of the North West produce some amazingly dramatic scenes; and often produce some strange artifacts. Here, a discarded deck chair faces the sands of the Irish Sea.

The Golden Gate Bridge

Wow was the first thought that went through my head when I saw the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time. It flashed into sight in the far off distance; you can see it from across downtown San Francisco. This was shot near to Fort Point. If you follow the signs for Presidio, and then Fort point you will come to this spot. Just in front of me was the spot Kim Novak dropped herself into the water in the film Vertigo. I ticked off another item from my 'big things to do in my life' list.

Alcatraz!

Having seen Alcatraz in the flesh, there is no way anyone could manage to escape from Alcatraz. However, Point Blank is still a favourite film of mine and if Walker (Lee Marvin) swam across the bay, after having been shot several times at point blank range, then I believe it. Not so much verisimilitude, but a great film. LOL.

Rice Fields, Chaing Rai, Thailand

This is a shot taken a year or so ago of some rice fields taken in Northern Thailand. The Greens of a fresh Paddy Field are deep and very rich in colour. This contrasts greatly with post harvest time, which gives deep yellows and browns. The temperature here though is still around 34 degrees.

Jet lag can really be a pain in the neck, you sleep when you don't want to and can't sleep when you want to. Fortunately there are things to do if you can't sleep at 5am. This is the view from the bedroom window in the Mark Hopkins Hotel, San Francisco. The F/1.4 Sigma really is a great lens for letting in as much light as possible.

The photograph was shot as a JPEG (I normally don't like to shoot JPEGs as they afford little control after the picture has been taken, RAW is so much better, but while travelling, when you know you will be taking upwards of 1500 shots I just don't have the storage available to shoot in RAW. This photograph of Venice was taken with a Pentax ME Super during a tour of Europe when I was eighteen.

It has been scanned, digitised, resized, then cleaned up a little bit in photoshop CS2; but mainly this is how it was shot.

I no longer have my notes for this shot, but as I was rolling my own film then, it would have more than likely been shot on TMAX 400 ASA (The dredded TMAX) I never got along with TMAX, it always used to underdevelop, event though the developing times were followed to the letter.

This was originally shot in the early 1980's (I think I was about 16 years old) with a Pentax ME Super.

The location was a closed down school campus in Burton On Trent, England.

I printed this originally as a 12" x 8" print and remember struggling with the small size of the developing trays.

It has been scanned and digitised then cleaned up a little bit in photoshop CS2; but mainly this is how it was shot.

The mountain is a sacred place; here a 'shiva' phalus used to sit on the 'nipple' of the mountain below the clouds. It was said that the water from clouds would be caught here and from there make its way down the mountain into a temple.
